Quick question:

Is integration of SnippetMaster into an existing Web site just a matter of adding snippet tags to the existing file(s) in the areas that you wish to be editable?

Yes, you are actually correct.   

Here's a link to the "how it works" documentation page, to show exactly how you can create "Snippets" for your pages to make them editable.
