[-] Ready to buy 5 licenses, php errors on install
« on: June 11, 2010, 06:32:16 AM »

I installed the free version on a personal site, and all went well.  I was pleased enough to begin using this program with clients, so I'm installing it onto my first one.  All clients are on a different host than my personal test site that worked perfectly, so I'm thinking there is something i'm missing between the 2 hosts.

Upon launching the wizard after successful pre-installation, I'm given the following php errors:

Warning: main(/home/anderson/public_html/cms/db.inc.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/anderson/public_html/cms/install/install1.php  on line 0

Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening '/home/anderson/public_html/cms/db.inc.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/anderson/public_html/cms/install/install1.php on line 0

The url for the page I'm at when I receive this is install/install1.php.  The "specify your database folder" step of the installation is below the errors.  I am using "cms" in place of the default install folder name, but my previous installation worked smoothly doing this as well.  The program recognizes my "cms" folder and appears to use it without any problems since that is where I initially uploaded the autoconfigure file and pre-installed without errors.  I considered using the recommended directory name, but I plan to buy rebrandable licenses for each client, so I need a solution that accepts "cms" or whatever I choose.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello,

Hmm.. this looks like a file permissions problem or possibly a file path problem.  Can you send me an email with your FTP info and I'll take a look?   It is sometimes that the file path "automatically" found by snippetmaster during the installation is not correct, and just needs to be fixed with the correct file path location.

(It's no problem to install to a different folder name, such as "cms".)

OK, I received your email and just did the free install for you (and sent the demo license for your sales website..)

The problem with the PHP errors was that the autoinstaller did not properly set the 'db.inc.php' file to have write permissions.  I had to manually change the permissions using my FTP program, and then it worked ok.  (Looks like a bug in the autoinstaller program..)

Let me know if you run into any difficulty with anything or have any questions.

Cheers!

Awesome, installed perfectly and seems to be working well!

Is it safe to assume changing the permissions for db.inc.php after the initial install will work for other installations?

Thanks!

Yes, I suspect you'll have this same permissions problem for any new install on the same server.  (It's actually a server related "bug" with how the FTP "chmod" command works..)

And of course, if you get stuck, you're always welcome to contact me for help or submit a free install request, etc.

Smile
