[-] PRO Bought, Not Installed
« on: October 22, 2006, 05:57:54 AM »

I bought the PRO version this morning, but it is not yet installed anywhere.  I have been learning how to work with SnippetMaster LITE on a development/testing web site, but now I want to go ahead with working with a full production version of that same web site.  Here are my questions:

1) If I install the LITE version on the production web site (same web hosting company as the development one), and upgrade to the PRO version, will the ordinary user see any difference?  (I would expect NO.)

2) After adding SM to the production version, can I try it out on unlinked test pages on the production site?  (I would expect YES.)

The answers may be obvious, but I am a cautious person when it comes to trying out new software on a production web site which is working just fine right now without any problems.  Oh, another quesiion:

3) How much space does SM take on the server?  (I am somewhat near the limit on this web site at times.)

Hello,

1) There is no difference, except the name of the program will change to Snippetmaster PRO, and the PRO features will be activated.

2) The best method of testing is to make a copy of a few production pages and then edit those.  ie: If you have a page called "index.html", then make a copy called "index-test.html", add the snippet tags to this new test file, and then test with it.  Only change your live production files AFTER you have tested, and of course make a backup of everything...

3) Depends on if you're using the "ioncube" version or the "zend" version of encoder.  The Zend version is smaller. I think the ioncube version takes up about 4mb of space, and the zend version takes about 1.5 or so.  However, if you have less then 10mb or so in your hosting account, then I highly recommend upgrading, as most web servers need space for putting temporary files, and then of course if an email user gets a big email... you'll need somewhere to put it.

I am usoing the Zend version.

After some time to reflect, I have decided to continue working on the development web site for now, where I don't have to be concerned about messing up what the viewers of the production version might encounter, or the warning messages that my client would get over there when we get close to the 50Mb limit.

I certainly have more to learn about how to use SnippetMaster, and especially how to work with the snippets as a Power rather than an Amin user.
