Can't get anything to work

I've tried the autoinstaller, the zend, and the ioncube. All I get is error messages, too many to list. I contacted my isp (earthlink - they prove to be more and more worthless each time I call them) They said that it appeared that the files did not completly load and that I should reload the program and change all the .php files to .php5. No luck. I've followed the many differnt steps suggested for both versions Binary on, Auto on, changed chmod settings, run the the test scripts, etc. etc. I'm sure i'm missing something simple but at this point I'm just frustrated. I'm dying to try this program. Can anyone help a 'not so tech savy' person out?
