I really have no idea why Word would start to install.. at what point when you're using SnippetMaster does the Word installation process start?
I highly suspect that there is something misconfigured in your system with Microsoft Word. Does this problem occur every time you try to run SnippetMaster?
Thanks!

After ~100 times pressing cansel this problem does not exist.
Do you mean the problem does not occur anymore at all? Or that the problem goes away until the next time you open a file in SnippetMaster?
Thanks!

Hi, I run XP pro and office pro 2000
all is working fine since original instal -
I had the same problem and (I do not remember the exact warning window)
but was required to insert my original instal CD (I didn't)
I cancelled and was able to test it
I like it a lot and will use it on a new site soon.
however I do not understand why I was alos required to instal a new feature
if you want I may recreate the errorl; let me know
Cheers

Heip!
Now that problem doesn't exist anymore(!?)
First I really thought that this wysiwyg system needs some word2000's feature I didn't installed yet (I'm not guru with these things ).

It's a very strange problem... and even stranger since it seems to go away after awhile.. even though you don't install anything from MS Word.
I wonder if maybe the MSHTML controls that are used by the WYSIWYG editor are maybe triggering the installation process. I haven't been able to figure out a pattern yet, since only a few people (out of 600 downloads in 3 days) have reported this problem.
If you can try to recreate it and let me know the exact steps (and your system specs, etc..) that would be great.
Thanks!

Hi Electric,
I have three machines behind a router running every thing from a pent 2 to a pent 4 and multiple browsers for web test.
The one machine a I tried only runs XP pro and Office 2000 pro
It’s a powerful home made pent 4 @ 2 gig with 512 meg of mem
Only machine modif are an excellent HS and 4 fans.
That one particular does not run (yet) as my test bed Apache, PHP and MySQL
So it is very close to a basic machine
I tried again and got the same result as follow:
One: select a folder (does not trigger it)
Two: select a file (do trigger the problem)
Here comes the window installer with "Feature you try to ..... is on the CD bla, bla , bla..."
So I cancelled that
Which in return create a 1706 " office pro cannot find a source...."
Cancelled that one too
And then the demo will fully work.
Thanks
BTW I run with a partner http://www.lurkhere.com site
a tech site for PC and Linux users with a forum
I asked my partner to look at the problem
I am the web guy
He’s the tech brain

Hmm.. so the problem (MS Word install) is ONLY triggered when you select the file you wish to edit? It is NOT triggered when you select a folder? Is that right?
I asked my partner to look at the problem..
Let me know if he finds anything..
Once you confirm that the problem is ONLY when you select the file, I can then isolate the appropriate code that is being executed and try to figure this out.
Thanks!

Thanks. I'll take a peek at the code and see if I can isolate anything in there that might be requiring MS Word installer.
If anyone else wants to take a peek, please let me know if you find something. My problem is that this error is not occuring on my system, so it's very difficult to debug. If someone could try to narrow down the problem code section that would help.
Thanks!

Uh... I have no idea what is data1.msi? I'm guessing this is a compressed installer file? But what is it looking for in that file?
I wonder what would happen if you actually let the installer find and install what it's looking for?

I will try later to use the CD and see if finds it
however I guess you might want to offer the capability since MS has made it ok to redistribute
<<<Neither Windows 95 nor Windows 98 came with the Windows Installer files on the CD-ROM. Windows Installer is often called "MSI", I guess because it's main file seems to be msi.dll.
There are two redistributable files available from Microsoft that install the Windows Installer files:
Windows 9x: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=32831
Windows NT/2000: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=32832
Windows XP Home and Windows XP Pro already contain the currently available MSI files>>>
cheers

Just curious. Were the files that are causing this problem created with a MS program (such as frontpage)?

No. All the files were created with standard notepad, and shouldn't rely on Microsoft.. except of course for needing the IE 5.5 or higher browser.
I wonder if maybe the problem is the browser. Maybe the browser doesn't have some component installed, and thinks it needs to install something so it triggers the MS installer. Not sure why it thinks it needs a Word component, though.. but who knows how Microsoft has tied in their software with each other..
Anyone have any clues for this problem?

I am havig the same problem with installing something from CD.
I use WIN 2000 profrssional and after cancelling it works OK.
The other thing that I found out is that it's not asking for a CD on the Mac machine when you select that same file. What happens on the Mac is that it opens up the file for editing but everything is grey and the little navigation pics of WYSIWYG are grey, too. This is on OS 9.1 with IE 5.0for Mac.
I'll check this out latter today on OS X, too and post the results here.

I sure would like to figure out what is causing the installer to start up. I just can't seem to make it do it on my test machine! Arg.

Any word on this? I've never tested the SnippetMaster on a Mac before. Is the IE browser for MAC any different than the one for Windows? I hope not.
