[-] Problem installing on 1&1 shared server hosting
« on: July 28, 2010, 07:34:07 PM »

I tried installing snippetmaster using the auto installer and got an "Error 500 - Internal server error".  I then tried both of the manual installation options and received the same error.

I contacted my host (1&1) to see if I could get more information about the error or access to the error log.  They responded that since I am on a shared server, snippetmaster cannot be used.

My experience with 1&1's customer service is that half the time they don't know what they're talking about so before I abandon my effort to get snippetmaster to work, I wanted to find out if anyone else has managed to get snippetmaster to work on 1&1 shared server.

Hello,

Yes, I have some customers who use 1and1 with no problem.. but then there are lots who also have the same experience you had.. where 1and1 doesn't seem to know what they're doing.

The solution is sometimes to resubmit your ticket and get a different helpdesk tech who might be more motivated to help... or the best solution is to simpy find a better hosting provider that actually cares about your business.  (Let me know if you'd like a good recommendation, with not only great hosting, but also free license of SnippetMaster PRO rebrandable version.)

Generally, a "Error 500" means that there is a configuration problem with the PHP software on your website.  Does the 1and1 control panel have any kind of "error log" or something like that to show what is the actual error causing the problem?

Cheers!
