Hi, I'm desperate to get snippetmaster to work it looks like the perfect program for my clients needs. I'm still setting the website up and my client hasn't chosen a web host yet so its all running locally at the moment. I can't seem to figure out how to install it. If anyone could help that would be amazing, i've already spent a day trying to figure it out after giving up with snippetedit (who i understand ripped you guys off anyway).
So far, i've installed snippetmaster manually for ioncube and got a blank screen and then tried the zend version and got the zend optimizer not installed screen.
I'll start simply, is it possible to install this locally or am i just wasting my time, i couldn't seem to find anything covering it in the forums.
Any help would be greatly received !!!
Thanks Alex

Hello, First... you're welcome to let me know if you'd like a recommendation for a good hosting provider where you can not only get rock-solid (reliable) hosting, but also... free rebrandable version of Snippetmaster PRO. As for the installation... if you have FTP setup on the localhost machine, then let me know and I can try to connect and get it going. The blank screen problem with ioncube version means that the files were not uploaded correctly and they are corrupted. The Zend optimizer version will not work unless you have actually installed the Zend optimizer software into the PHP system. I hope that makes sense? Any good hosting provider will work with both zend and ioncube software, so be sure to ask whatever host you pick if they will support Ioncube and/or Zend encoded software. (And if so, will they provide actuall real assistance if there is a problem?) Thanks!

I have installed the zend optimizer with the path for php to C:/xampp/php and the apache 2 to C:/xampp/apache I don't have an ftp as its all running off one machine and didn't think that possible.

In all honesty I would not try to install SnippetMaster locally. It can take longer to work out than installing it on a real webserver - a lot longer! But do make sure that you use a decent host for the website. If you leave a client to make the choice they will go for the cheapest option they can find and won't worry whether PHP is installed or if there is any real support. They will often choose Windows rather that :inux, becuase they have hear of Windows before....
Choose the host for the client yourself. The servers I use for my clients are with a hosting company that provide an extremely reliable service with all the facilities needed for running CMS systems from SnippetMaster up though Joomla, Drupal & beyond. None of them have had to complain about a server being down or their web editor not working. I'm sure Henri can offer some valuable hosting advice.

Hi, I'll stop trying with setting it up for local as suggested before, I am interested in finding a host that'll be reliable enough and work with php, mysql and snippetmaster. I've been taking a look at ET web hosting as i'm guessing thats the one thats gonna get instantly suggested.
I'm in the UK and setting up the website on windows with dreamweaver 8.
Any suggestions on things to look out for would be greatly received as I'm fresh out of uni and web hosts wasn't really covered i.e. does it need to be a linux host?

Hello, Yes, ET Web Hosting is what I recommend.. Let me know if you'd like more details. Essentially, you can use Snippetmaster with linux or windows hosting.. but I always recommend linux since it's more "standard" for PHP software and things tend to always work better and more reliably. (Plus, it's usually lower cost since there are no license fees the hosting provider must get back...) In general, the best way to find a good hosting provider is by a word-of-mouth referral. A happy customer is always a good thing. Things to watch out for include: - Any host that seems "too good to be true". You will eventually discover that it *is* too good to be true. - Unlimited disk space, or unlimited bandwidth. There is no such thing as "unlimited space" on a hard drive or network, and the hosting provider will have all kinds of limits in the fine print of their terms of service. (ie: Instead of limiting "disk space" they will limit "inode entries" or some other technical thing that doesn't make much sense. If you dare to ever exceed one of those limites, your account will be suspended.. Basically, these unethical hosting providers who offer "unlimited" plans are just using a type of false marketing to try and attract unknown customers. - Any host that has low low low low pricing. The fact is that providing a reliable hosting service costs money. High quality hardware costs money, hiring good technical staff and admins to manage the servers and helpdesk costs a *lot* of money, etc.. Any host offering hosting for a few dollars per month is simply going to recoup their "loss" by putting many many many cjustomers on their servers. (Sometimes thousands of customers on the same server.) This makes the servers more unreliable, since every customer has the possibility to run a wacky php script and bring it down... I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. I can tell you that ET Web Hosting gets the majority of new customers who are "escaping" from a low-cost alternate hosting provider. In general most people simply pick the cheapest they can find.. and then soon discover why it is so cheap. I recommend starting off with a reliable company that you know is going to meet your needs. Cheers!

Hello!
I have PHP 4.3 and do not know snippetmaster. It seems there is no chance to get zend and ioncube software be installed.
Can I setup the software by autoinstaller if one deactivates safe_mode for me?
Thanks Volker

SnippetMaster will work with safe_mode enabled or disabled. The problem is that you must either have Ioncube or Zend Optimizer installed on the server. It is up to you (your server administrator) to get Ioncube or Zend optimizer working correctly. If your web hosting provider is not able to get Zend optimizer or Ioncube working, then I highly recommend switching to a more compentant web hosting provider who knows what they are doing. (Both Zend optimizer and Ioncube are considered industry-standard software and are installed on almost every web hosting server by default.) Let me know if you would like a recommendation for a good hosting provider where you can get Snippetmaster PRO (rebrandable version) for free.

I'm a web designer and just helping a friend with a homepage. The website is on a cheap hosting service for the development where it seems that's not possible to get this job done with the opportunity to login and change some content.
We still look for a suitable hosting provider for this project. Therefore I find it a good idea if you can suggest to us a better provider.
Kind regards, Volker
