[-] Online Demo - error messages
« on: November 23, 2008, 04:20:54 PM »

I am looking at the online demo, but getting error messages and no action.
Logged in as power, power.
example2 - multiple snippets
Theeditor does not fully load - the browser (IE7) says 1 item remaining.
On the second snippet, there is an image of your website.
Highlighting this, then clicking the image add/edit button brings up 2 popup windows, both with the yellow error on page icon. This icon says error line 97, char 2, sonething related to Opera.
Also the main edit page now has the yellow error on page icon in the browser status bar.
The same problem also exists when I try to insert a table - as the demo suggests.
I was initially impressed with your product, but now have reservations whether it is reliable.

Just tried in Firefox3 and it works - but most people use IE not FF (irrespective of the arguments that FF is more standards compliant etc .. ). Is the system to be fixed for IE7?
Please advise.
Thanks.

Hello,

Hmm.. I just tried the demo from four different computers, using everything from firefox 2 and 3, to IE 5, 6, and version 7.

I did not experience any problems. All three example files were opened and loaded with no errors..

Can you try disabling any virus scanners or security software on your computer?  It might be that they are being a bit overprotective and removing the javascript used by the editor?  that's the ony thing I can think which might be the problem..

It definately works with all version of IE, as there are thousands of users who use it every day...  Smile

Thanks!

Have tried on another PC with IE7 and it does work OK. Have compared IE settings between the 2 PCs and nothing appears different. Have disabled the virus software - it makes no difference either. It still does not work on my main PC, the error message in the popup is something related to Opera 'tinymce.isopera' is null or not an object, the error message on the main page is: line 2 char 45634 class doesnt support automation. However, I've not had any problem with any other website or software, and not touched the config for a long time. Can you identify what might be the problem from the error messages.
I will be giving snippetmaster a go on a live site shortly, this is obviously a configuration issue with my PC.
Thanks

Honestly.. I have no idea.  It seems like what is happening (based on the error message you posted) is that the editor is checking to see what browser you have ("is opera") and for whatever reason... that function is not working on your computer.

I'm not sure what might be the ifix, but if it's working for all other machines you've tried, then I think it's definately something local to that one machine.  The only solution I can suggest is the usual microsoft "fix" things like clear your browser cache, reboot, re-install IE, etc... Not very helpful.. sorry.

I'll be releasing a new version of the editor in a few weeks so that might help, but the browser detection routines are pretty much the same, so if that's the problem.. then i don't know if it'll get fixed.  Once the new version is released, if the problem continues, let me know and I'll work to try and figure it out with you.

Cheers!

I'm OK with that, I will have another look and see if there is anything else different. have already tried reboot, clearing cache and other temporary files.

Sounds like a corrupt IE profile. The "official" answer to this (apart from re-install Windows)  is to log into the PC as another user, which would use a different profile.

I've tried a different newly created user on the same XP machine, and it still does it. So I doubt its an IE7 profile issue. Also I have no problem with any other website. I will e-mail snippetmaster suport proper, they should be able to identify this by the error message thats coming up - thats if he will repond as I am not yet a paying customer. Its either a conflict with software or a bug. Are there any known conflicts with browser plugins?
Thanks

No conflicts that I'm aware of... but you might want to try disabling all of your plugins to see if one of them is the cause.  If you figure it out.. let me know!  Smile

Just spent the last hour or so disabling all loaded add-ins in IE - and it still fails with the error messages.
Surely the problem can be identified at least in part by the error messages by the technical team, I will e-mail the support person to find out.
