[-] Install Error
« on: April 21, 2008, 07:39:00 AM »

I'm very excited about this product and will likely purchase the rebrandable version(s) as I've been looking for something this simple for a long time for my clients.
I downloaded the free version to give it a try and followed the instructions for the auto install - I made a folder called "snippetmaster" and uploaded the "autoinstaller.php" file into it at the root of the site. I haven't changed any permissions yet (I just contacted the host - I think they have to). When I tried:
http://www.bigfloridarealtors.com/snippetmaster/autoinstaller.php   I get:

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp\sess_dbe0101356bcff0245ee74579c56c09c, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in D:\WWWRoot\bigfloridarealtors.com\www\snippetmaster\autoinstaller.php on line 2
I was unable to connect to the SnippetMaster server.
A problem was found. I will now clean up anything done so far...

The Auto-Installer did not work.
(Please review the error(s) above. Maybe it's a problem you can fix?)
Warning: Unknown: open(/tmp\sess_dbe0101356bcff0245ee74579c56c09c, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

Is this because of the permissions? I just want to make sure it's not something else.

Thanks for this product - I hope it will save me tons of time!

Hello,

From the error, it looks like your web hosting provider has not correctly configured the server to work with "PHP Sessions".  This is very basic server configuration issue, and is something they will need to fix before you can run any PHP application that uses standard php "sessions", including Snippetmaster.

It should take them about 5 seconds to fix the problem.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you so much - I will contact them. It was my client's choice to use this host - awful. Thanks again!

You bet.  Let me know how things go.  If you'd like a recommendation for a good host that gives free licenses of Snippetmaster PRO (rebrandable version) just let me know.

Yes, yes! I would love a lead to a good host - especially one with a bonus like that. Not only did this client choose a lousy host and want to stay with them but my long standing host that I resell with has had so many crashes that my clients are getting sketchy - so I'm on the hunt for a good host that I can move all my other clients to and resell space from. Thanks!!!

Hello,

Well, to be honest -- I actually am the owner of ET Web Hosting.  http://www.etwebhosting.com

We have been in business since 2001 and now have about 3000 customers. All of our growth has been word-of-mouth referral, so we are definitely known for being a solid and reliable provider.  Smile

The majority of our customers are small businesses and website design owners.  They come to us because they want a reliable and trusted provider, and they are tired of dealing with constant problems with their current hosts.  You will find that we are a bit more expensive then the budget low-cost providers, but this is also why we are able to be more reliable and have better service.

With regard to transferring your websites, my tech staff are very experienced with transfers, and we can take care of website moves with either no downtime or very little (like minutes).  My tech guys can evaluate everything and work with you to get the transfer done so it all goes smoothly.

Anyway -- here's a few links that will help...

Free SnippetMaster PRO (rebrandable licenses) and hosting discount:

http://www.etwebhosting.com/specials/snippetmaster.html

And our free transfer service:

http://www.etwebhosting.com/specials/free-transfer.html

And of course, we also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee so if for whatever reason you decide we just aren't right for you, then there is no financial lose.

Lastly if you would like to get a feel for the rapidity and quality of our helpdesk, just register for a helpdesk account and submit a few test tickets at any time:  http://helpdesk.etwebhosting.com

Let me know if you have any questions about anything and I'll help right away.  I'm 100% confident you'll be very happy with our web hosting services.

Cheers!

I appreciate the honesty and the info. There is quite a price difference to what I pay now ($9.95/month!) - so I guess I get what I pay for. I'll review your site in more detail and keep you in my back pocket. Thanks so much. Looking forward to using Snippetmaster too.

Hello,

You bet.  We're definately not a low-cost budget provider.  Here's an article I wrote about "costs" a whlie ago.. you might find it interesting:

Me again - hello!

Still going back and forth with the hosting company - they have now sent me this link saying the php is working fine. But, I still get the same error message when I try to run the auto install.

"Php for your domain name bigfloridarealtors.com is working fine. You may verify same through http://bigfloridarealtors.com/phpinfo.php"

Any clue? I really want to use this product!

Can you send me an email with the ftp un/pw to your /snippetmaster folder?  I will login and upload a test file that will show the problem.  Your web host is obviously not very intelligent, since the error that is already displayed is very clear:

---------
Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp\sess_dbe0101356bcff0245ee74579c56c09c, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in D:\WWWRoot\bigfloridarealtors.com\www\snippetmaster\autoinstaller.php on line 2
---------

However, I can upload a test file that will make it even more clear, so that they don't even have to use thier brains to see the problem.  Smile

Let me know.

OK, I got it.  I just replied to your email.  The web hosting provider needs to create the /tmp folder, which is where they have configured PHP "sessions" to be located.

(Basically, the host has configured the server to use a folder that does not exist...)

Should take them about 5 seconds to fix it, and then Snippetmaster will work for you.

Let me know if you get stuck with anything.  Smile

Hi there,

I'm sure you're going to love their reply:

Hello Robyn,

Please provide us the complete path where you need the "tmp" folder to be created.

We have created the folder in the home directory of your domain, but that has not helped.

I'm sure this process is rarely this difficult...

lol.  That is pretty funny.  Yet another indication that your web hosting provider does not have even a small clue of what they are doing.  Honestly, with a host this incompetant, it's just a matter of time before your server is hacked and your website is defaced or someone starts sending spam from your account, etc.  Unless this is a free host, I recommend moving somewhere else.

The "tmp" folder needs to be located exactly where the error indicates it is missing:

/tmp

It needs to be located in the root directory of the file system.  (The preceeding forward slash is a symbol to indicate the location, and the fact your host does not know this.... tells me they are probably 12 year old kids who have a $10 server located in their bedroom closet that is hosting your website.)

Good luck!  Smile
