[-] weird characters displayed in editor
« on: April 21, 2008, 04:53:27 AM »

The editor is taking hypens and changing them to: –
It saves them like this as well and overwrites the site.

The site is designed in Expresion Web Desinger and here is the html it is changing:
Code:
<span class="greentext">Paths &amp; Tracks</span> a ball lying

In the editor it is showing code of:
Code:
><span class="greentext">Paths &amp; Tracks</span> &acirc;&euro;&ldquo; a ball lying

However in the sentence above this in the site where the hypen is not preceded by a space it interprets it correctly:
Code:
<span class="greentext">Manure </span>- if a ball lies

It also did this with a page that had an apostrophe in when designed and freshly uploaded by EWD:
Code:
Towns
- had a combination of funny characters in its place.
I edited it using the editor, replacing the characters with an apostrophe, saved it and it shows ok now.

However it has replaced the apostrophe in the html with:
Code:
Town&#39;s

I really do not want to have to correct every page in the site made with EWD before handing over to the client if possible.

Does anyone know the fix please?

Regards
Phil

I think this has to do with the character encoding you have specified for the site.
