[-] Error: not able to find the Starting Folder you entered
« on: July 24, 2007, 09:30:00 AM »

I've successfully installed SnippetMaster 4 times, this is the first time I've had this problem. In Part 2 of the Installation Wizard, after filling out all the Admin User Details and leaving the Start Folder/URL and Program Details to the default, I get the following error on clicking Continue:
Quote
A PROBLEM WAS FOUND!

The following error(s) must be fixed before you can continue:

    * I was not able to find the Starting Folder you entered. (/home/sfc/southernfriedchicks-www). Please check that the path exists and read permissions are set.

The path (/home/sfc/southernfriedchicks-www) is correct. The moment I add a sub-directory (/home/sfc/southernfriedchicks-www/images) it allows me to continue and successfully install. At that point, if I login, modify user, and attempt to make the starting folder (/home/sfc/southernfriedchicks-www) again, I get the error again:

# I was not able to find the Starting Folder you entered. (/home/sfc/southernfriedchicks-www). Please check that the path exists and read permissions are set.

Basically, it doesn't want to let me use my WWW root directory as the starting directory. This obviously needs to happen. Thoughts?

I've seen this happen when the web hosting provider doesn't have things correctly configured...

Can you let me know your FTP un/pw and I'll login and run a test to see if the folder in question is able to be "seen" by the server..

Send me an email to henri@snippetmaster.com with a link to this thread and the ftp info and I'll check it out.

Thanks for your help Henri.

For those visiting this thread with a similar problem, the problem is that the permissions on the root WWW folder were not set up correctly, thus the folder was not visible to SnippetMaster. The permissions (chmod) should be set to 755. This can be set through shell or FTP software.

Glad to help!

For anyone having this problem, you should be sure to contact your web hosting provider... different permissions might be needed, depending on how they have configured your account and their web server...

Cheers!

There is a diagnostic utility I can run, if you want to let me have FTP access to your snippetmaster folder.  (send me an email to henri @ snippetmaster.com with the info)

Otherwise, you need to ask your web hosting provider what is the correct file path to the the desired Starting Folder, and what permissions are needed to make it "readable".
